GAZA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Hamas authorities unveiled a new textbook for the school subject of "National Education" on Thursday, which for the first time refers to "armed resistance" and the liberation of Palestine.

Mahmoud Mattar, director of Educational Planning in the Hamas-run Education Ministry told Xinhua "Chapters amended in the book, such as resistance and liberation of Palestine, will help our pupils develop their understanding of their national cause and dedicate to it in their hearts and minds."

The Hamas movement, which won legislative elections in 2006, violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 and forced the government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to move to the West Bank city of Ramallah.
